Yes members, the rutabaga’s are ready for harvest. Haha, but seriously if you have never tried one before ( which Heather and I hadn’t until last year) you might be pleasantly surprised. Nutty and sweet with a mild turnip-like flavor, rutabagas can be roasted, sautéed, baked, fried, boiled, mashed, and added to soups and stews. They also can be eaten raw as a snack or grated into salads or coleslaw. An endless amount of possibilities! Our other new item in the CSA share this week is our neck pumpkins. The size of these can make them intimidating, but here is a great page with a step by step way to get all of the pumpkin you can handle. http://www.maryvsfood.com/2012/11/long-neck-pumpkins-are-for-winners.html
