Here we are already, the midway point of the CSA season. We are busily trying to keep up with the harvesting of the Summer crops, prepping beds and planting for Fall crops, irrigating since we missed all the rain, and weeding the things we fell behind on. Hello August, and we thought May was busy!
The CSA share for this week:
Sweet Corn – the last of it for awhile. There is a 3rd planting that looks sorta weak right now. Time will tell if we have some for Labor Day.
Tomatoes – prime time for the tomatoes. Heirlooms, cherries, paste, plums… they are all in their glory right now
Potatoes – Yellow Haze, a variety that is delicious roasted, baked, or mashed
Peppers – Take your pick, Sweet Bells, Sweet Frying, and HOT!
Cucumbers – 2019, the year of the cucumbers 😉
Patty Pan / 8 Ball Zucchini – two great stuffing varieties. Get some of Calaboga Grazing’s sausage, Conebella Farm’s Cheese, some onions, garlic, parsley, oregano….
Melons – the sudden dry spell coinciding with the melons ripening up is actually doing them a favor. Some real tasty sweet ones coming out of the field,
Onions – Mild, sweet yellows this week
Choice Table: Lots of options to pick from here – Celery, Eggplant, Garlic, White Onions, Red Onions, Swiss Chard, Kale, Tomatillo, and more! We’ll probably have half shares pick 2 and full shares pick 4.
Here’s a picture of our freshly hand weeded Swiss Chard. Nice work crew, looking good out there!
